Does anyone really know what the hell Modern Masculinity is? It sure doesn’t seem like it. Perhaps our problem is that a lot of people “know” exactly what it is, but they vehemently disagree. Maybe one group is wrong, maybe both, maybe some combination. Who knows? No one! Opinions are like…well, everyone’s got one.
Many “experts” believe the problem with relationships are the men in them. Terms like “Toxic Masculinity” scream shame while others claim some gentler souls are not “Real Men.” The spectrum of opinions attempting to define masculinity in the modern world is disparate, emotionally charged and absolutely killing relationships.

There is a famous quote, “The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.” This is only half true as evil men must act for evil to triumph. Not only must we take a stand against evil, but also raise men up who refuse to do evil.
Why is this so difficult? Doing nothing is easy. Nothing has no risk. Nothing is…nothing.
Absolutely empty. Lacking substance. Devoid of character, care or concern. The brutally honest answer is selfishness. When men refuse to sacrifice personal pleasure for the greater good evil flourishes.
Like all spectrums the majority of men are somewhere in the middle. Most men do something, but can we do better? What would our world look like if we took the risk to stand up, stand out and use our voice? Instead of doom scrolling social media’s hot take on the controversy du jour, how about we offer up some common sense stability. My God, in this world doesn’t that sound powerful?!
Instead of mindlessly picking a side and parroting talking points we can be courageous and think for ourselves. We can decide what we want our country to look like and make our voices heard. We can make today’s vision tomorrow’s reality.
Courage is choosing to do the thing we are afraid…to do…to say…to stand. Wondering if we will be cancelled by the screaming voices of siloed assimilation can encourage us to cower. This is not who we are. This is not who we are created to be. This is not masculinity and it is not Much Macho!
I will end this post with another quote:
“Do not go gentle into that good night,
Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.
And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless, me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.”
